what is the difference between li ion and lithium batteries?

The main difference is that lithium metal batteries are disposable and lithium ion batteries are rechargeable batteries.

It uses lithium metal as the electrode and generates electricity through the corrosion or oxidation of lithium metal, which is not rechargeable.

what is the difference between li ion and lithium batteries

Lithium-ion batteries have the following advantages.

  1) High voltage, the working voltage of a single cell is as high as 3.6-3.9V, which is three times higher than that of Ni-Cd and Ni-H batteries

  (2) High specific energy, the current actual specific energy is 100-125Wh/kg and 240-300Wh/L (2 times more than Ni-Cd and 1.5 times more than Ni-MH), with future technological development, the specific energy can be as high as 150Wh/kg and 400 Wh/L

  3) Long cycle life, generally more than 500 times, or even more than 1000 times. For appliances with low current discharge, the life span of the battery will multiply the competitiveness of the appliance.

  4) Good safety performance, no pollution, no memory effect. Li-ion batteries, the predecessor of Li-ion, are prone to short-circuiting due to the formation of dendrites: Li-ion does not contain cadmium, lead or mercury, which are polluting elements to the environment: some processes (such as sintered Ni-Cd batteries) have a major disadvantage: the "memory effect", which severely limits the use of batteries. However, Li-ion does not have this problem at all.

  5) Low self-discharge. The self-discharge rate of a fully charged Li-ion battery after 1 month of storage at room temperature is about 10%, much lower than the 25-30% of Ni-Cd and 30-35% of Ni and MH.

  6) Fast charging and discharging, 1C charge can reach more than 80% of the nominal capacity.

  7) High working temperature range, working temperature is -25~45°C, with the improvement of electrolyte and positive electrode, it is expected to be widened to -40~70°C.
